Rutherford Recieves Second Freshman All-American Honor

DURHAM, NC -- Old Dominion University freshman shortstop Zach Rutherford (Chesapeake, VA.) received his second Freshman All-America honor as he was named to Baseball America’s second team Freshman All-American squad as released today by the publication. He is the 16th Baseball Monarch to be selected since 1985. Rutherford was selected to the Louisville Slugger’s/Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American squad on June 2.

Rutherford was third on the Monarchs in hitting at .317 where he started 42 of 43 games, mostly at shortstop.  Rutherford hit .355 in 27 C-USA games which was best on the team. He had 13 multiple-hit games and knocked in a career high four RBI in a game against nationally ranked Florida Atlantic.  Rutherford committed only five errors and was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman squad.

Louisville two-way star Brendan McKay was named Baseball America's 2015 Freshman of the Year, and he also leads the 2015 Freshman All-America Teams.
