NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University head men’s basketball coach Jeff Jones announced today that Trey Porter a 6-10, 200 pound forward (Woodbridge, VA.) from George Mason University, will transfer to ODU and will be eligible for the 2016-17 season as a sophomore.
“We are pleased that Trey has decided to join the Monarch Basketball family,“ said Jones. “He brings excellent length and athleticism and we are looking forward to helping him develop on and off the court.”
Porter played in 30 games and earned seven starts for the Patriots last season. He averaged 3.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game and was second on the team with 33 blocked shots. He scored eight points against West Virginia and 11 points against College of Charleston. Porter made his first collegiate start at northern Iowa. Porter played in ODU’s 75-69 win at George Mason this season, scoring five points with two rebounds.
A graduate of Potomac High School, Porter was twice named first team All-District and was a first team All-State selection as a senior. He capped off his career being named Virginia 5A Player of the Year. He is the son of Annette Aaron.
The Monarchs signed Austin Colbert (Chesapeake, VA.) who transferred from Illinois on May 5. In the early signing period, ODU signed three recruits to national letters-of- intent for the 2015-16 season. They include: 6-1 point guard Ahmad Caver (Atlanta, GA.) from St. John’s Military Academy, 6-7 forward Aaron Carver (Elizabeth City, NC.) from South Kent Prep and 7-1 center Payton Pervier (Snohomish, WA.) from Dodge City Junior College.
