NORFOLK – A record six Old Dominion University athletic teams recorded perfect single-year APR scores of 1000 and all 16 of ODU’s NCAA sponsored teams earned scores of 950 or higher in the 2013-14 Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released today by the NCAA.
The APR scores released today are based on data from 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14. The six teams with perfect single year scores are Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Field Hockey, Men’s Golf, Women’s Lacrosse, and Wrestling, representing ODU’s highest total of perfect scores since the APR was initiated by the NCAA.
“Our student-athletes work hard on and off the playing fields and continue to excel academically,” says Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig. “Graduating our student athletes is the No. 1 priority at Old Dominion. Our student athletes have bought into an academic culture that has been enforced by our coaches and academic support staff. Congratulations to our six teams with perfect one-year scores and to all of our teams for well exceeding the 930 minimum NCAA requirement.”
Teams scoring a four-year average of 930 or above avoid penalties and are eligible for postseason competition. While all 16 ODU teams reported scores of 950 or higher, 15 of the 16 have a four-year score of 960 or higher, which equates to a 70% graduation rate.
Last week, ODU’s men’s golf team and women’s soccer were recognized by the NCAA with perfect four-year APR scores.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
