140 Student Athletes earn Dean’s List Honors in 2015 Spring Semester
NORFOLK – Eleven of Old Dominion University’s 18 intercollegiate sports teams earned grade point averages of 3.0 or higher for the spring 2015 semester, and 140 student athletes have earned Dean’s List honors with a 3.4 GPA or higher.
The 140 student-athletes comprise 31% of all student athletes enrolled at ODU this past spring. The teams with GPA’s of 3.0 or higher for the 2015 semester GPA were: Women's Soccer (3.41), Field Hockey (3.36), Women's Swimming (3.36), Women's Golf (3.35), Men's Golf (3.28), Lacrosse (3.23), Men's Soccer (3.21), Men's Tennis (3.19), Women's Sailing (3.15), Women's Tennis (3.06) and Rowing (3.04).
"I am continually impressed with the individual academic accomplishments of our student athletes and collectively by our athletic teams," says Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig. "Having 31 percent of our athletes earn Dean's List honors and 56% earn 3.0 GPA's or higher is a testament to our coaches and academic advising staff. The academic achievements of these outstanding young men and women is setting the standard for future classes to follow."
Overall, women's golf led all teams with with a combined fall and spring semester GPA of 3.4, followed by men's golf with a 3.34 and field hockey with a 3.31.
Of the 452 Spring 2015 student-athletes, 22 (5%) student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA , up 2% from Fall 2014, and 253 (56%) earned a 3.0 or higher semester GPA , an increase of 2% from the Fall.
