NORFOLK, Va. – The Big 12 Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Rowing Team and the Old Dominion Monarchs had 19 student-athletes honored.

A total of 172 student-athletes have been named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Rowing Team. The team includes honorees from the Big 12’s five institutions that sponsor the sport as well as recognizes those who meet the criteria from the league’s three affiliate members in the sport - Alabama, Old Dominion and Tennessee.

The Monarchs represented 19 of the 172 student-athletes honored, with 16 earning first team accolades and three earning second team honors. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. The Wildcats of Kansas State paced all eight teams with 32 total honorees including 25 first team selections.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Old Dominion will be back in action this weekend at the Big-12 Rowing Championships on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Competition will start on Saturday morning and will end on Sunday afternoon, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship.
