NORFOLK, VA-- The Rams (18-13) of VCU defeated ODU, 10-2 Wednesday night in a non-conference contest at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex, ending the Monarchs three-game winning streak. Earlier in the day, the new Paul A. Keyes Indoor Hitting Facility at ODU was officially dedicated.
The Monarchs (17-14) were led by PJ Higgins (Wallingford, CT.) with two hits and a run batted in. Connor Myers (Middletown, MD.)and Nick Walker (Virginia Beach, VA.) also had two hits on the night for ODU. Walker and junior Nick Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ.) scored the Monarchs lone runs.
Vimael Machin led the Rams with four hits, followed by Alex Gransback with three hits and three RBI. Walker Haymaker added two hits and two RBI, while Mitchell Lacey knocked in two runs as well.
Righthander Sean Thompson (3-2) pitched five innings allowing two runs with one walk and no strikeouts. Reliever Matt Lees and Tyler Buckley pitched four scoreless innings for VCU.
