NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 48 Old Dominion men’s tennis team moved up 22 spots in this week’s ITA Rankings after being ranked No. 70 last week. The Tennis Monarchs are 14-2 on the season and has won seven of their last eight matches.
“It’s great for our guys to get recognized with this new ranking, but rankings change every week until the end of the year,” said ODU head coach Aljosa Piric. “We have to stay focused on job at hand and continue to improve, and move our team and our program in the right direction. We are excited for the last regular season weekend of the year, and C-USA tournament here at home from April 16-19. Our task now is to finish our season strong.”
ODU is a perfect 6-0 when playing at home at 8-2 when on the road so far this season. The Tennis Monarchs have knocked off three nationally ranked opponents already this season: No. 75 Rice (4-2), No. 60 Elon (7-0) and most recently No. 66 South Alabama (4-3).
Carlos Lopez Villa is 13-2 on the season and is 51-4 throughout the past three seasons.
Adam Moundir was just named C-USA Athlete of the Week and is 12-4 on the season, while winning seven of his last eight matches.
Like Moundir, true freshman Michael Weindl is also 12-4 for the 2015 season.
Javier Jover Maestre is 12-3 on the year and has won six of his last seven matches.
Theophile Lanthiez is on a four-match winning-streak and has won five of his last six matches while possessing an 8-6 overall mark.
Zvonimir Podvinski is 13-2 for the season and has won eight of his last nine.
