ODU Lacrosse Takes On Detroit In Semifinals of A-Sun Tournament

NORFOLK, Va.  – The Old Dominion women’s lacrosse team is heading to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend to participate in the 2015 Atlantic-Sun Tournament. The trip will mark the first time ODU has made it to postseason play since 2009. ODU will face No. 3 Detroit on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Monarchs defeated the Titans during the regular season at home, 16-9.

The Monarchs ended the regular season with a 13-4 overall record, tying the program’s mark for wins in a season, and a 6-1 record in league play. They finished as the regular season runners-up and enter the championships as the No. 2 seed.

Jacksonville University will play host for the tournament this season at D.B. Milne Field. All games will be streamed on ESPN3 (watchespn.com) and live stats will be available.

Junior Ashmore Standing leads the Monarchs offense with a conference-high 49 goals and 68 points. She has also tallied 19 assists, which ranks fifth in the league, to go along with her 28 ground balls (17th), 24 caused turnovers (4th) and 16 draw controls (36th).  Standing also ranks 18th in the nation in goals and points, as well as 19th in points per game (4.00) and 22nd in goals per game (2.88). Jessica Liberty also helps the offense average 14.06 goals per game with a total of 47 markers and 10 assists this season.

Connor Carson and Morgan Gallagher anchor the back-line, as they lead the team in ground balls and caused turnovers and rank in the top-five in the league. Carson has posted 32 ground balls and a team and 27 caused turnovers, to go along with her 37 goals and five assists. Gallagher leads the team with 41 ground balls and has also caused 24 turnovers on the year.

Maggi Buckley has been the go-to goalie towards the end of the season and has closed out the year with a 6-0 record and a 6.98 goals-against average, the only goalie in the conference to be under 7.00. She has also earned a 54.3 save percentage, which ranks first in the Atlantic-Sun.

As a team, ODU ranks in the top-10 in the nation in four different categories. The Monarchs are No. 8 in both caused turnovers per game (10.06) and ground balls per game (19.29), while ranking No. 9 in scoring offense with 14.06 goals per game. ODU also ranks No. 10 in saves percentage with a .490 mark.
