NORFOLK, Va. – After losing to the Jaguars just last Sunday, the No. 70 Old Dominion men’s tennis team proved its resiliency by defeating No. 66 South Alabama by a score of 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
The Tennis Monarchs got off to a good start in doubles, as Adam Moundir and Michael Weindl bettered the No. 72 ranked tandem in the country (Daniel Leitner and Gerhard Gruindelingh) by a score of 8-4. Also picking up a doubles win for ODU, was Carlos Lopez Villa and teammate Javier Jover Maestre, who downed Manuel Belda and Tim Srkala, 8-6.
After jumping out to a 1-0 lead in doubles, Adam Moundir made quick work out of Juan Troglia (6-2, 6-1), giving ODU an early 2-0 advantage. Moundir is now 10-4 in singles play and has won five of his last six matches.
Zvonimir Podvinski gave Old Dominion a 3-0 lead after taking down Gerhard Gruindelingh in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Podvinski advances to 12-2 on the season and has won seven of his last eight battles.
After dropping his first set, it was Theophile Lanthiez who clinched the match for the Tennis Monarchs, when he proved to be too much for Manuel Belda (6-7, 6-2, 6-2). Lanthiez (7-6) is now on a three-match winning streak and has won four of his last five.

Old Dominion will remain at home this Sunday, April 5, against UAB at 10:00 a.m. for SENIOR DAY for CARLOS LOPEZ VILLA. The Madrid, Spain-native will play his last regular season home match for Old Dominion on Sunday against the Blazers.
