TEXARKANA, Arkansas - ODU's Pedro Junqueira shot 71 in the final round to finish with a 220 and tie for 17th at the Conference USA Men's golf Championships. As a team, ODU tied for sixth with Middle Tennessee for a 54-hole score of 888.
Senior Juan Munoz of North Texas fired a 5-under 211 (69-72-70) to take individual medalist honors at the 2015 Conference USA Men's Golf Championship at the Texarkana Country Club (par 72/6,869 yards). The top four teams, North Texas, UAB, UTEP and Charlotte, advance to the inaugural Conference USA Men's Golf match play tomorrow, with the semifinals set for 7:30 a.m. CDT and the championship match tentatively slated for 12:30 p.m. CDT.
Munoz registered 2-under 70 in the final round to overtake teammate and 36-hole leader Jason Roets to win the 2015 individual title. Munoz led the field with 15 birdies and was tops in par-5 scoring (4.33/-8). His performance, along with teammate Cory Churchman who tied for fifth, helped propel the Mean Green to the No. 1 seed heading into Wednesday's match play semifinals. North Texas will take on No. 4-seed Charlotte with play beginning from the first tee at 7:30 a.m. CDT. Munoz and Churchman earned All-Tournament Team accolades for their play.
UAB is the No. 2 seed following 54 holes of stroke play and will square off against No. 3 UTEP from hole 10 at 7:30 a.m. CDT. Freshman Lee Hodges was the top finisher for the Blazers with a 1-under 215 to tie for third, while senior Martin Simonsen buoyed the Miners with his fifth-place even-par 216 showing. Both golfers were named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team for their efforts.
The Southern Miss senior duo of Casey Fernandez and Drew Kirby round out the C-USA All-Tournament Team. Fernandez earned runner-up honors after carding a 3-under 213, while Kirby tied Hodges for third.
