TEXARKANA, AR—ODU freshman Chad Hess (Orefield, PA.) shot 74 today and is tied for 17th after two rounds of the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championships which are being held at the Texarkana Country Club. As a team, the Monarchs are tied for seventh with LA Tech at 592.
North Texas leads the tournament by six strokes over UAB and Southern Mississippi. Individually Jason Roets of North Texas leads Drew Kirby of Southern Miss and Martin Simonsen of UTEP by one stroke.
Hess tallied three birdies in today’s round, shooting 38 in the front and 36 in the back.
Conference USA is set to become the first NCAA Division I conference to include match play, reflecting the NCAA format, as part of its men's golf league championship. The member schools will play 54 holes of stroke play (April 26-28) on the par 72, 6,935-yard course, with the top four teams advancing to a four-team seeded match play playoff to be conducted Wednesday, April 29.
