Hayde and Gallagher Earn A-Sun All-Academic Team Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – The Atlantic-Sun Conference named the 2015 All-Academic Team and Old Dominion’s Karen Hayde and Morgan Gallagher earned the honor.

Hayde earns the distinction after posting a 3.79 cumulative grade-point average in biology. She earned IWLCA Academic Honor Roll honors last year and has made the Dean’s List six times during her career, including a perfect 4.0 twice. On the lacrosse field, she became ODU’s first Atlantic-Sun Defensive Player of the Week after she made five saves and allowed just one goal in the Monarchs' season opening win over Gardner-Webb. She has also stopped 88 shots for an 11.06 goals-against average and a .458 save percentage this season.

Gallagher makes an appearance on the All-Academic Team, as she has posted a 3.53 cumulative GPA in interdisciplinary studies and has been named to ODU’s Dean’s List six times during her career. The junior team captain has started in all 17 contests this season as a midfielder. She leads the team with 41 ground balls and has caused 24 turnovers, both of which rank in the top-5 in the Atlantic-Sun. She has helped the back-line post a 9.24 goals-against average and rank eighth in the nation in both caused turnovers per-game (10.06) and ground balls per-game (19.29). She was named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the week after the midfielder helped hold of American, as she earned four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The Monarchs closed the season with a 24-6 win over Howard to claim their 13th win of the season, tying a program record for wins in a season (13-4). ODU will take on the winner of No. 3 Detroit vs. No. 6 Stetson in the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida.
