NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s basketball team will compete in the 2015 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, which will be held on Nov. 26-28. The Lady Monarchs have been placed in the ‘Reef Division’ along with Maryland, Pittsburgh and South Dakota State. ODU will play a total of three games in three days.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to compete in the Paradise Jam next season,” said ODU head coach Karen Barefoot. “The strength of the field is proven by the fact that all three teams went to the NCAA tournament this past season, and Maryland advanced to the Final Four. These will all be competitive games, which will be a good for measurement to strengthen our team heading into Conference USA play.”
Old Dominion is scheduled to open up the tournament by playing Maryland, the reigning Big Ten champions, on Nov. 26 at 5:45 p.m. EST. The following day (Nov. 27) the Lady Monarchs will square-off with Pittsburgh of the ACC at 9:00 p.m. Finally, on Nov. 28, ODU will battle South Dakota State, the reigning Summit League champions at 5:45 p.m.
Old Dominion has previously participated in the tournament a total of three times: 2002-03, 2007-08 and 2011-12. This will be Barefoot’s third appearance in the tournament.
The Paradise Jam tournament is split into two different divisions consisting of four teams each. The ‘Island Division’ is compiled of Virginia, Rutgers, Tulane and UW-Green Bay.
