NORFOLK, VA—Senior designated hitter Josh Eldridge (Lorton,VA.) knocked in four runs and sophomore Nick Walker (Virginia Beach, VA.) three to lead the Monarchs (19-21) of Old Dominion to an 11-5 non-conference win over the Richmond (20-15) Spiders Wednesday evening.
Richmond took a 1-0 lead in the first on a two out solo homer by designated hitter Matt Dacey, his 10th of the season.
The Monarchs took the lead in the third when Eldridge belted his third homer of the season with Zach Rutherford (Chesapeake, VA.) and Taylor Ostrich (Carroll, IA) aboard. In the sixth Nick Walker singled home Connor Myers (Middletown, MD.) for a 4-1 lead.
ODU scored seven runs in the eighth inning led by a two-run RBI by Walker. Taylor Ostrich, Eldridge, Myers, Rutherford and catcher Mike Perez (Fairfax Station, VA.) also had RBI’s in that inning.
ODU pounded out 14 hits as Eldridge and Walker both had three hits, while Rutherford, Joey Guaragna (Mississauga, Ontario) and Connor Myers each had two hits. Sophomore Jake Josephs (Fairfax Station, VA.) picked up the win, his first of the season.
Richmond was led by Michael Morman and Kyle Adams with four hits each and Daniel Brumbaugh added three for the Spiders.
The Monarchs travel to Boca Raton, FL for a three-game C-USA series at No. 14 FAU Owls beginning Friday night at 6:30. Listed to all three games live on STAR1310 AM with Ted Alexander providing the play-by-play.
