NORFOLK, Va. – Athletic Directors from the BIG EAST Conference member schools recently approved host sites for the fall championships and Old Dominion University was selected to host the Field Hockey Championships for the upcoming 2015 season.

“We are honored to be selected to host the prestigious 2015 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship on the campus of Old Dominion,” said Athletic Director Dr. Wood Selig.  “Having recently hosted the Field Hockey National Championships, I am confident we can deliver a quality experience for all the student-athletes, teams, and fans who will be participating and taking part in this Championship event.”

The 2015 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship will be played at Old Dominion’s L.R. Hill Sports Complex, Nov. 6 and 8. Known as one of the top field hockey facilities in the nation, L.R. Hill Sports Complex was opened in 2008 and features Astro Turf 12, the most preferred playing surface by players and coaches. Old Dominion joined the BIG EAST as an affiliate member for field hockey prior to the 2013 season and will serve as the league tournament host for the first time. The 2015 tournament marks the ninth time ODU has hosted a conference championship.

“The BIG EAST is an exceptionally strong conference for field hockey so hosting this Championship event will be a tremendous opportunity for our local community to enjoy some of the finest field hockey competition in the country,” added Selig.

The Lady Monarchs advanced to the semifinals of the 2014 tournament and finished the year with an 11-8 overall record and a 4-1 mark in league play.

Additionally, field hockey affiliate member Temple was chosen as the host for the 2016 BIG EAST Championship. The Owls also joined the BIG EAST lineup prior to the 2013 season and has qualified for the league tournament in each of its first two seasons. Located in Philadelphia, Geasey Field was opened in 2009 and is home to one of the largest permanent Astroturf surfaces in the world. The 2016 BIG EAST Championship is set for Nov. 4 and 6.
