HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 3 seeded and No. 66 nationally ranked Old Dominion women’s tennis team (15-4) took down No. 14 seeded UAB (7-14) by a 4-0 score in the First Round of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championships on Wednesday, April 16, in Houston, Texas. The Lady Tennis Monarchs will take on the winner of the No. 6 seeded North Texas versus No. 11 seeded LA Tech match tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. EST.
Thursday’s match got started with Old Dominion claiming the doubles point via victories from Borislava Botusharova/Adriana Rajkovic (8-4 win on Court No. 1) and Nikol Hristova/Marijana Novakovic (8-5 win on Court No. 2).
Nikol Hristova gave Old Dominion a 2-0 advantage after defeating UAB’s Rachel Daniell in straight sets (6-4, 6-2).
Old Dominion’s No. 113 nationally ranked freshman, Borislava Botusharova, dropped the first set but came back with a vengeance to win sets two and three (3-6, 6-0, 6-3).
ODU’s Ingrid Vojcinakova sealed the deal for the Lady Tennis Monarchs in Round One when she took down Amy Lowther (6-4, 1-6, 6-1), giving Old Dominion a 4-0 victory over the Blazers on Thursday afternoon.
