NORFOLK, VA—East Carolina (22-15) scored two runs in the top of the eighth on a two-run double by pinchhitter Parker Lamm to defeat Old Dominion (17-19) Wednesday evening at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.   ODU was led by C-USA Player of the Week P.J. Higgins who had two hits on the night.

With the score tied at two runs each,  Travis Watkins led off with a walk and with Luke Lowery was intentionally walked. With two outs, Lamm doubled to left, scoring both Watkins and Lowery with the go-ahead runs for ECU.

The Monarchs first run came in the second inning. Derek Francis doubled and came home on  RBI groundout by Jason McMurray. In the six inning ODU tied the game at 2-2 as Zach Rutherford doubled and scored on Connor Myers RBI single.

Higgins had two of ODU’s six hits which raises his batting average to .380 (2nd in C-USA), and extends his hitting streak to 12.  Zach Rutherford, Connor Myers, Derek Francis, and Kurt Sinnen had one hit each.  

ECU had ten hits on the day led by Hunter Allen with three, followed by Charlie Yorgen and Reid Love with two each.

ODU starter Joey Benitez pitched six innings allowing just two runs with one walk and four strikeouts in a no-decision.

The Monarchs return to action this weekend beginning Friday with a three-game C-USA series with Marshall at 6 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Complex. 

ODU Baseball hosts 3rd Annual "Bark in the Park"For the third year, Old Dominion Baseball is partnering with the Norfolk SPCA to host "Bark in the Park" night at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. On Friday, April 17th, at 6 pm the Baseball Monarchs will host the Marshall Thundering Herd and fans can bring their dogs into the game for the only time this season. A special area in Rally Alley will be reserved for pets and their owners.
