NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After a scoreless first half, the Old Dominion women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against CNU on Saturday afternoon in the fourth of five spring games for the Lady Soccer Monarchs. ODU is now 2-0-2 so far this spring, with victories against N.C. State and Longwood and a tie against VCU.

“This was a very physical game for us against a very determined and organized CNU,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “I felt we struggled in the first half to really play our game, which was in part due to the hard work of our opponents. After they (CNU) equalized, I felt we really stepped up our play and created some really good chances on goal, but were unfortunate not to finish them off. We look forward to our alumni event this weekend and then our final game against William and Mary on Sunday.”

Old Dominion will round out this year’s spring schedule against William and Mary on Sunday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. The Tribe finished last season No. 87 in the final RPI count. The day before, the women’s soccer program will hold an Alumni Game/Brunch on Saturday, April 18 at the ODU Soccer Complex.

This past Saturday against Christopher Newport, the score remained tied 0-0 at halftime. The game was a very competitive one with the Captains, as they battled hard to try and minimize Old Dominion’s ability to possess the ball. Angie Hind tipped her hat to Christopher Newport, as they worked hard to close ODU down. In the first half, the Lady Monarchs saw very few real chances.

ODU stepped up in the second half and began to put some real pressure on the CNU defense and got the breakthrough from a Madison Hogan rebound, which was her third goal in three games this spring. CNU however got themselves back in the game from a set piece of their own with the ball served deep in the box and after a scramble, a Captain poked the ball into the net to level the game at 1-1.

Despite some great shots on goal in the last 15 minutes from Johnson, Dougherty, and Haverly, the score remained tied.
