WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The No. 48 Old Dominion men’s tennis team (15-2) persevered 4-3 against William and Mary (13-12) in what turned out to be a five and a half hour match at the Millie West Tennis Facility. ODU has claimed victory in eight of its last nine matches heading into the C-USA Tournament next weekend.

After the Tribe claimed the doubles point, W&M honored its three-member senior class of Zach Braig, Aaron Chaffee and Will Juggins, before the four-hour singles session saw the Monarchs win four matches, including three in three sets, to clinch the victory. It marked the sixth time in the last eight meetings between W&M and ODU that the score ended in narrow 4-3 fashion. W&M fell to 13-12 overall, while ODU improved to 15-2 for the regular season.

Javier Jover Maestre tied the team score at 1-1 after making quick work out of Damon Niquet (6-2, 6-1). Jover Maestre is 13-3 on the year and has won seven of his last eight matches.

After dropping the first set, ODU’s Adam Moundir took down Will Juggins (4-6, 6-4, 7-5), to tie the team score back up at 2-2. Moundir was just named C-USA Athlete of the Week and is 13-4 on the season, while winning eight of his last nine matches.

Old Dominion senior’s from Madrid, Spain, Carlos Lopez Villa, won a thrilling three setter against Christian Cargill (7-5, 4-6, 6-0) to give the Tennis Monarchs a 3-2 edge. Lopez Villa is 14-2 on the season and is 52-4 throughout the past three seasons.

It was ODU’s Zvonimir Podvinski who sealed the victory over William & Mary, when he got the better of Alec Miller (6-1, 4-6, 6-4). Podvinski is 14-2 for the season and has won nine of his last 10.
