SAN ANTONIO, TX—Skylar Valentine tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, then singled home the game winner in the bottom of the 13th to lead UTSA Roadrunners (20-14/8-5) to a 7-6 C-USA victory over ODU (16-16/4-9) in game one of a doubleheader. The second game started at 9:30 Friday night.
ODU scored 3 unearned runs in the third inning as PJ Higgins singled home Jason McMurray, then Higgins along with Nick Walker would later score on a UTSA throwing error.
In the sixth, Ostrich led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Connor Myers. Jason McMurray belted his second homer of the season in the seventh to give ODU a 5-0 lead. ODU added a run in the ninth when Myers singled home Higgins for a 6-4 lead.
Monarchs starter, Greg Tomchick pitched 5.2 innings of scoreless ball with three walks and three strikeouts. PJ Higgins led ODU with four hits with two runs scored and an RBI. Connor Myers and Mike Perez had two hits, while Taylor Ostrich drew three bases on balls.
In the ninth Valentine’s bloop single to right scored Matt Hilston and Trent Bowles to tie the contest at 6-6 with two outs. In the 13th, Valentine singled to right to bring home John Bormann with the gamewinner.
