NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion rowing team is back in action this weekend, as they will participate in the 2015 Knecht Cup on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12 on Mercer Lake in West Windsor Township, N.J. This well-known regatta provides competition for nearly 70 schools from across the country.

Old Dominion will send six boats to compete in the Knecht Cup. The Varsity 4 will take off first in heat four of event eight that starts at 8:03 a.m. The boats that place 1-3 plus next three fastest times will advance to the semifinals. The Second Varsity 4 “A” boat will take to the water next at 8:38 a.m. in heat one of their division. The ODU “B” Varsity 4 will follow 20 minutes later in heat four (8:59 a.m.). The event winner and runner-up and the next four fastest times advance to the semifinals.
After a two-hour break from action, the Varsity 8 will take action in heat three of event 32 at 11:22 a.m. Only the top-three times will advance to the semifinal round. The Second Varsity 8 is the first race of the afternoon, as it starts at 12:18 p.m. In that event, the top-four times plus the next two fastest times advance. ODU’s Freshman 8 boat will close out the day for the Monarchs with a race at 1:08 p.m. The boats that place 1-4 plus next 2 fastest times move on to the semifinals.
Last year, the Varsity 8 finished with a bronze medal after taking third in the Grand Final at Lake Mercer. ODU's top boat placed with a time of 6:50.75, beating Boston College, Drexel and Tulsa to earn third overall at the event. The Second Varsity 8 won the Petite Final in a time of 6:59.98. The Lady Monarchs beat Central Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, Boston University and West Virginia to take seventh overall in a very fast, and competitive field. Old Dominion's Varsity 4 took fourth in the Petite Final for a 10th place overall finish. The team just missed out on third with a time of 8:12.79, but managed to beat Fordham and Philadelphia.

The Lady Monarchs will return to the water on April 25-26 when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to take on Central Florida and Miami.
