GREENVILLE, NC –East Carolina (6-5) defeated the Monarchs of Old Dominion (2-5) Wednesday night 9-6 at Clark-LeClair Stadium. Junior centerfielder Connor Myers (Middletown, MD.) led the Monarchs with three RBI’s, while junior thirdbaseman Nick Lustrino (Spring Lake, NJ.), senior firstbaseman Taylor Ostrich (Carroll, IA.) and junior shortstop Jason McMurray (Des Moines, IA.) each had two hits on the night for ODU. Lustrino also knocked in two runs.
The Monarchs tied the game twice. In the second inning, ODU rallied for three runs on a two-run RBI single by Myers and an RBI single by senior catcher Mike Perez (Fairfax Station, VA.).
In the sixth inning McMurray doubled and later scored on a single by Lustrino. ODU also got a solo homer in the eighth inning by Lustrino, but the Monarchs left the bases loaded.
In the ninth ODU added a run on a Connor Myers sacrifice fly to plate McMurray, but Lustrino and Joseph Guaragna (Ontario, Canada) were left stranded. ECU added two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings.Pirates Joe Ingle picked up the save after pitching out of jams in the eighth and ninth innings.
ECU was led by Travis Watkins with three hits, while Charlie Yorgen knocked in two runs for the Pirates.
The loss ended ODU’s four-game winning streak at ECU. ODU outhit ECU, 13-9.
NOTE:
Due to impending weather conditions Thursday through Friday in the Norfolk area, the ODU vs UPenn game scheduled for Friday March 6 is being moved to be part of a planned doubleheader on Saturday March 7. The first game for Saturday is scheduled for 1pm.
