LAIE, Hawaii – The Old Dominion women’s tennis team handed Division II’s No. 4 ranked BYU-Hawaii its first loss by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday in Laie, Hawaii. BYU-Hawaii has won a total of nine National Championships in its prestigious history. BYU-Hawaii’s head coach, Dr. David Porter, is the second Hall of Fame coach that Dom Manilla and his Lady Tennis Monarchs have defeated this season, the first being Paul Kostin of VCU.

Old Dominion’s true freshman No. 93 ranked Borisla Botusharova handled business again in straight sets on Court No. 1 against BYU-Hawaii’s Dallas Zhang (6-4, 6-4).

Dom Manilla’s sophomores (Ingrid Vojcinakova and Marijana Novakovic) shined again, as they have all season long. On Court No. 3 Vojcinakova won both the first and second set by a score of 6-2 in her victory over Marietta Tuionetoa. On Court No. 4, Novakovic also won in straight sets over Jade Griffin (7-6(4), 6-4).

The Lady Tennis Monarchs started the day by picking up the doubles point, which proved to be crucial in the 4-2 win over BYU-Hawaii. ODU’s duo of Borislava Botusharova and Nikol Hristova beat Liu/Zhang, 8-1. Also earning a victory in doubles action for Old Dominion were Ingrid Vojcinakova and Ivana Vukovic, who took down BYU-Hawaii’s Griffin/Wu by a score of 8-6.

RESPECT THE OPPONENT - Coaching Highlights - Dr. David T. Porter
-During the 2007-2008 season Dr. Porter passed the 1,000 win mark.  He achieved 1,000 collegiate coaching victories in fewer contests than any coach in any sport in any division in NCAA history (1,128).
-Coached 11 NCAA and NAIA National Championship Teams.
-He has the highest winning percentage of any NCAA women’s tennis coach in history:  467 wins and 9 losses for a .981 winning percentage. (15 seasons since joining the NCAA through 2013)
-He is the first coach in NCAA tennis history to coach both men’s and women’s teams to National Championships in consecutive years (2002 and 2003).
-He received the Educational Merit Award in 2007 from the INTERNATIONAL TENNIS HALL OF FAME.
