BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s tennis team (2-2) fell to No. 50 ranked Virginia Tech (4-1) by a score of 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Lady Tennis Monarchs will be right back in action tomorrow against Coastal Carolina.
Old Dominion’s true freshman Borislava Botusharova picked up a nice victory over Virginia Tech’s No. 1 Ilinca Stoica after dropping the first set, in what turned out to be the longest match of the day in Blacksburg, Va. Stoica entered the fall as the No. 65 ranked player in the country. Botusharova is currently ranked No. 68, according to the ITA rankings.
Also picking up a win for Old Dominion on Friday was sophomore Marijana Novakovic, who handled business in straight sets against Virginia Tech’s Raluca Mita (6-3, 6-4).
Both of the Lady Monarchs losses this season have come at the hands of nationally ranked foes, as they nearly upset No. 41 Arkansas just last weekend (4-3 loss).
ODU will be right back in action against Coastal Carolina tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., looking to avenge today’s loss, as the Chanticleers enter the weekend with a 1-1 overall record, with its win coming against USC Upstate (6-1) and its loss against UNC Greensboro (4-3).
