NORFOLK, Va. – After a week off, the Old Dominion University women’s tennis team will welcome Georgia State (6-3) on Friday, Feb. 27, at 1:00 p.m. and then nationally ranked No. 61 Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday, March 1, at 12:00 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Admission is FREE to all guests.

The last time, the Lady Tennis Monarchs took the court, they handed Penn its first loss of the season in a tight 4-3 match.

Old Dominion has received winning performances from the top and bottom of its lineup, highlighted by Borislava Botusharova’s 6-1 start in the No. 1 slot. Botusharova has been nationally ranked throughout the season.

Two weeks ago, Borislava Botusharova (Pazardzhik, Bulgaria) was named Conference USA Player of the Week after defeating one of the C-USA’s top players, Tiffany William of Middle Tennessee in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). The award was the first of Botusharova’s young collegiate career.

Also performing brilliantly for the Lady Tennis Monarchs has been Dom Manilla’s sophomores: Marijana Novakovic (6-1) and Ingrid Vojcinakova (5-2). Ivana Vukovic enters the weekend with a 3-3 overall singles record.  Vukovic is also 3-2 in doubles, when teamed up with Adriana Rajkovic.

Old Dominion is 2-1 so far this season when playing at home.

ABOUT VCU
VCU enters the weekend with a 7-4 overall record so far this season.

Head Coach Paul Kostin is one of just four Division I tennis coaches all-time to reach 1,000 career wins. Kostin’s greatest work for the VCU women’s program came in 2006, when the Rams won their first 29 matches, setting a new school record, on the way to a NCAA Tournament “Sweet 16” berth and a No. 12 final national ranking.

VCU No. 1, Cindy Chala, is currently nationally ranked No. 49.

ODU has not defeated VCU since 2007, when they took down the Rams 6-1 in Richmond.

Georgia State
Georgia State enters the weekend with a 6-3 overall record and is coming off a 6-1 against Samford. The Panthers’ tandem of Tarani Kamoe and Linn Timmermann are currently nationally ranked No. 40.
