6-0 and No. 68 Ranked Tennis Monarchs Welcome Yale Sunday at 10AM

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion Tennis Monarchs (6-0) will play host to the Ivy League’s Yale (5-2) on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 10:00 a.m. at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. ODU is off to its best start since the 2005-06 season, when they also won the first six matches before falling to Duke (1/20/06) in the seventh match. The Tennis Monarchs are now ranked No. 68 by the most recent ITA team rankings.

As a team, Old Dominion has bettered: Navy (6-1), UTSA (5-2), No. 75 Rice (4-2), No. 60 Elon (7-0), Richmond (6-1) and East Carolina (5-2). The Monarchs are 3-0 away from home and 3-0 when playing at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

No. 66 nationally ranked Carlos Lopez Villa has won all six of his matches at the No. 1 slot. Also 6-0 for ODU so far this season is freshman Michael Weindl (No. 3). Javier Jover Maestre (No. 5) is also unbeaten in singles play (5-0). Zvonimir Podvinski (No. 6) is 5-1, while Adam Moundir (No. 2) has lost only two of his six matches.

In doubles play, Jover Maetsre and Podvinski have claimed victory in four of their five matches, while Moundir and Weindl are currently 4-2 when teaming up together.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to take on William & Mary on Saturday in Williamsburg, Va. before making the trip to Norfolk.

Yale’s sophomore Tyler Lu and junior Martin Svenning, made fast starts to their seasons before the ECAC Championship and will look to anchor the Bulldogs' efforts in both singles and doubles play.  They will be joined by freshmen Fedor Andrienko and Stefan Doehler, both of whom shined in the encounter against George Washington.  Also posting wins in the George Washington upset were senior Daniel Faierman in singles and sophomore Alex Hagermoser in doubles, playing alongside Lu.  Freshman Ziqi Wang rounds out the list of starters for the Elis.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
The match scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20 against Charlotte was been cancelled due to inclement weather and adverse travel conditions.

Also, the match against UNCW, which was was previously postponed as been rescheduled for Fri., March 20, at 2:00 p.m. in Wilmington, N.C.
