NORFOLK, VA—Alex DeJohn (Marlboro, NJ.), a 2012 All-CAA Defender has signed a professional contract with IK Start, a first division team in Kristiansand, Norway. Last year, DeJohn played for TPS in Turku Finland.
IK Start currently plays in Tippeligaen, which is the top league in Norway. They play in a stadium called Sør Arena which holds 14,563 people. In 2006-2007 the club qualified for UEFA Champions league.
“In our survey, we saw that Alex had some exciting qualities. In training and in the game, we have confirmed that we get a quick and resilient player who is good with both legs - both short and long passes. Alex is hardworking, has a good attitude and good mentality. These are qualities we are looking for." - Mons Ivar Mjelde (head coach).
“I am very excited to be here at IK Start,” said DeJohn. The players and coaches have given me a great welcoming into the team. We have high expectations for ourselves this year and I am eager to get the season started. Moving from Finland to Norway is a great step in my career. Although Finland have some very good players, the overall quality here in Norway is better. The league has outstanding facilities and some well-known teams around the world.”
DeJohn finished his career at ODU with two goals and one assist for five points, including a goal against George Mason on the Fox Soccer nationally televised contest. As a senior in 2012, the Monarchs compiled an 11-3-3 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
