NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s basketball team (8-4, 1-0) will play host to the Marshall Thundering Herd (8-4, 0-1) on January 8 at the Ted Constant Center at 7:00 p.m. The game will mark each squad’s second Conference USA contest of the 2014-15 season.

HOW TO TUNE IN
Thursday’s contest will be video streamed live in HD through Monarch Media on ODUSports.com and will also air live on STAR 1310 AM Hampton Roads with Doug Ripley (Voice of the Lady Monarchs) on play-by-play and Susan Montgomery (former Lady Monarch assistant coach) handling color duties.

The women’s basketball game against Marshall will be the fourth encounter between the Thundering Herd and the Lady Monarchs. The last meeting resulted in an Old Dominion overtime win 65-52 (OT) on February 1, 2014.

ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS
Old Dominion enters Sunday’s contest with an 8-4 overall record along with a 1-0 C-USA mark while compiling five wins out of seven attempts at the Ted. The Lady Monarchs are currently ranked 55th in the nation/leads the conference for most blocked shots per game (4.6). Destinee Young is 82nd on the country’s blocked shots per game ladder, averaging 1.75 an outing, which also leads the conference.

The Lady Monarchs are allowing 61.6 points per game, while opponents shoot 39.5% from the floor against ODU. Old Dominion averages 16.4 forced turnovers a contest.

Jennie Simms has led the Lady Monarchs so far this season with 17.5 points and 6.3 rebounds. Last game against Charlotte, she set a new career high of 25 points against Charlotte in only 26 minutes of play. Chelisa Painter is averaging 9.8 ppg to go along with 5.6 boards a contest. Tiffany Minor averages 8.3 points to compliment 5.3 rebounds per game.

Ashley-Betz White currently leads the squad in assists (42) and steals (22). Destinee Young is Old Dominion’s leading rebounder averaging 6.6 per contest, with 32 of her 79 total boards coming on the offensive end. Young is the Lady Monarchs leading shot blocker with 21 rejections so far this season.

ABOUT MARSHALL
The Thundering Herd enters Thursday’s game with an 8-4 record and 0-1 C-USA mark for the 2014-15 season. Marshall is coming into the game after losing their conference home opener against Western Kentucky 53-67 this past Sunday. The Thundering Herd are currently ranked 42nd in the country/first in the conference for field goal percentage defense (35.4%). Marshall also leads the conference for 3-PT field goals made per contest with 6.9.

They look to their senior guard/forward Leah Scott, who is averaging 14.7 points-per-game and 6.8 rebounds-per-game and senior center Chukwuka Ezeigbo, who is averaging 11.3 points-per-game and 10.4 rebounds-per-game. Ezeigbo currently leads the country in field-goal percentage, connecting on 69.7% of her attempts the floor. Ezeigbo is the fifth ranked player in the nation for offensive rebounds per game with five, and ranks No. 34 overall/No. 2 in the conference for rebounds per game (10.4).

Thursday’s match-up is the second game in a three game home stand for the Lady Monarchs as they play host to their second Conference USA opponent in Marshall. The last game in the home stand is against Western Kentucky on January 10 (2pm).
