NORFOLK, Va. – After a successful showing at the 35th annual Virginia Duals where the Monarchs defeated two ranked teams, No. 18 Old Dominion (6-3) will return to the mat on Sunday against American at 2:00 p.m. The Wrestling Monarchs will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the Eagles, holding a 29-4 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1958.
No. 14 Tristan Warner (165 lbs.) and No. 2 Jack Dechow (184 lbs.) lead the Monarchs, combining for 35 wins and just three losses on the season. A two-time NCAA qualifier, Warner has racked up an 18-2 overall record and an unblemished 8-0 dual meet record. He has highlighted his season winning the 165-pound bracket at the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open at the beginning of the season. Dechow, a 2014 All-American, is just behind Warner with a 17-1 overall mark and an 8-1 record in dual action. The NC State Open champion and the Midlands champion has highlighted the season with wins over No. 13 Vic Avery (Edinboro), No. 16 Benjamin Stroh (Wyoming), No. 8 Sam Brooks (Iowa) and No. 2 Lorenzo Thomas (Penn).
The Monarchs are currently ranked in all five ranking outlets, including three No. 18 rankings. In the USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, ODU jumped up four spots from last week to No. 20. The Wrestling Monarchs also have seven grapplers currently ranked in the top-30 of their weight class. Below are the highest rankings for each wrestler.

American (5-2) enters the match with the Monarchs with seven returning starters from last season, including two-time NCAA Qualifier David Terao. The No. 15 wrestler in the nation at 125 pounds is currently tied for first on the team with 22 wins overall and claims a perfect 7-0 dual meet mark. No. 17 John Boyle (157 lbs.) also returns for the Eagles, and has also recorded 22 wins so far this year. He has a 22-5 overall record and a 5-1 mark in dual action. He has taken down two nationally ranked wrestlers, featuring No. 11 Justin DeAngelis from Oklahoma.
The Eagles travel to Navy on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. match before hosting the Monarchs at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
