NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football Head Coach Bobby Wilder was recognized today as one of 13 recipients of the John R. Broderick Diversity Champion Award.
Wilder and the other winners were honored for their overall work in championing diversity on campus. Wilder was recognized for his work promoting diversity on campus and in the community, including his personal work with the 100 Men Campaign against domestic violence with the Hope House Foundation, his team’s annual sponsorship of the Special Olympics on campus in April. He is committed to registering more potential donors to the National Bone Marrow Drive, where he and his team have hosted a registration event on campus every spring that has added more than 600 names over the past six years.
In the Monarchs’ first season in Conference USA and FBS, Wilder led the Monarchs to a 6-6 overall record and 4-4 mark in C-USA. The Monarchs defeated a pair of teams playing in bowl games in Rice and Louisiana Tech. Wilder won his 50th career game as a head coach in ODU’s 38-35 come-from-behind win over FIU.
Wilder and the Monarchs are 52-20 in six seasons. ODU advanced to the FCS playoffs twice and won the CAA Championship in 2012.
