NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University offensive linemen Josh Mann and Tyler Compton were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.
A senior from Virginia Beach, Va., Mann is a three-year starter for the Monarchs at center and has started 32 career games. He is a team captain this season and has started all nine games at center. Mann holds a 3.44 grade point average in mechanical engineering.
Compton is a redshirt sophomore from Virginia Beach and has started eight of nine games at guard for ODU this year. He has started one game at left guard and seven at right guard. Compton posts a 3.97 GPA and will graduate in two and half years with a degree in mathematics. In the spring of 2015, he will begin his under graduate degree in finance.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
The Monarchs are back in action this weekend when they take on FIU on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m. in the annual homecoming game.
