NORFOLK, Va. – The 17th-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team is traveling to Providence, R.I. for the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament this weekend. The Lady Monarchs will meet No. 16 Temple in the tournament for the first time, with action starting at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The winner will advance to the championship match on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Scouting the Owls
16th-ranked and third-seeded Temple (13-6) concluded regular season action on Nov. 1 in a 4-3 loss to No. 4 UConn to finish 3-2 in conference play. Senior forward Amber Youtz leads the BIG EAST in points per game (60 pts/3.16) and goals per game (26g/1.37) entering the tournament. She also comes in at second nationally in points per game and third in goals per game. Lizzy Millen is third among BIG EAST goalkeepers with 100 saves in 19 contests and has posted one shutout.

Scouting the Lady Monarchs
17th-ranked and second-seeded Old Dominion (10-6, 3-1 BIG EAST) finished its regular season slate with a 5-1 loss to top-ranked North Carolina Nov. 2 in Norfolk. Senior Rosario Villagra paces the squad in points (26) and assists (10). Villagra ranks sixth in the conference in points per game (1.44) and fourth in assists per game (0.56) entering the BIG EAST Tournament. Junior Sarah Breen leads the team and is sixth in the conference with 10 goals. Junior Megan Hept has anchored the Lady Monarchs’ back line to six shutouts this fall. Hept has totaled 53 saves in 17 outings. A product of Chesapeake, Va., she ranks 19th nationally in GAA with a 1.53 clip.

Temple Series History
Friday’s BIG EAST first round contest marks the 23rd all-time meeting between Old Dominion and Temple with the Lady Monarchs holding a 20-1-1 advantage in the series. ODU is currently on a 20-game winning streak against Temple. The two BIG EAST squads met earlier this season with ODU claiming a 3-2 victory in Norfolk Oct. 17.
