BLACKSBURG, Va. – Jennie Simms recorded a career high of 21 points, while four Lady Monarchs scored in double-figures in Old Dominion’s 69-62 victory over the ACC’s Virginia Tech at Cassell Coliseum on Tuesday night. With the win, ODU advances to 3-1 on the season, while VT drops to 3-2.
Old Dominion’s Chelisa Painter recorded 10 first half points and teammate Tiffany Minor poured in nine points of her own as the Lady Monarchs and Hokies were all tied up, 29-29, after the first 20 minutes of action.
For the first half, ODU shot 39.3% (11-28) from the floor, 36.4% (4-11) from three and 60% (3-5) from the free-throw line. Virginia Tech knocked down 11-30 (36.7%) field goal attempts, went 5-12 (41.7%) from three and connected on 2-4 (50%) of their three-point attempts.
Jennie Simms went for 18 second half points, as the Lady Monarchs outscored the Hokies 40-33 in the final 20 minutes en route to Old Dominion’s 69-62 victory. ODU increased each shooting statistic in the second half, connecting on 42.3% (11-26) from the floor, 50% (3-6) from three and 75% (15-20) from the FT line.
Simms finished with a team-high 21 points for the contest, which is a new career high for the WVU transfer. Simms also hauled down seven boards in the winning effort. Also in double figures for Old Dominion were Chelisa Painter (13 points, 6 rebounds), Tiffany Minor (12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) and Ashley Betz-White (11 points).
Leading the way for Virginia Tech was Vanessa Panousis, who scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the first half. Rachel Camp recorded 14 of her 18 points in the game’s second half. Regan Magarity neared a double-double, going for nine points and 10 rebounds.
For the contest, the Lady Monarchs shot 40.7% (22-54) from the floor, 41.2% (7-17) from downtown and 72% (18-25) from the charity stripe. The Hokies finished shooting 37.7% (23-61) overall, 31.8% (7-22) from three and 60% (9-15) from the free-thrown line.
The game saw a total of nine lead changes and six ties. Old Dominion converted 12 points off its 13 forced turnovers and assisted nine of its 22 made field goals.

Old Dominion will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 30, against Rider at the Ted Constant Center. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
