The loss snapped ODU’s six-match winning streak.

After a very physical start to the match, Old Dominion settled in and scored the game’s first goal at the 25:18 mark in the opening half off a beautifully played Christian Schroeer corner kick in which a Hoya player headed the ball backwards and into Georgetown’s net, lifting the Monarchs with a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.

The first 45 minutes of action saw one Old Dominion shot to Georgetown’s six, while the Monarchs attempted two first half corners compared to the Hoyas one. ODU goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen made four saves in the opening half.

With 16:59 remaining in the second half, Georgetown’s Tyler Rudy played the ball into teammate Brandon Allen, who drilled his shot into the back of the net to tie the match at one apiece and force overtime.

The first extra time period came and went without a goal, after two Georgetown shots and three Hoya corner kicks.

In a match that appeared to be heading towards penalty kicks to decide the outcome, Georgetown scored with just seven seconds remaining on the game clock in the second overtime session off a misdirected deflection to prevail 2-1 over Old Dominion in heartbreaking fashion. Arun Basuljevic was credited with the unassisted game-winning goal at the 109:53 mark.
