NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion wrestling team is back in action this weekend, as they head to Raleigh, N.C. for the NC State Open. Action begins at 9:00 a.m. and will run throughout the day at Carmichael Gymnasium. Fans can keep up with the action by following live stats via TrackWrestling.com.
Twenty-two ODU grapplers will participate in the annual tournament held on the NC State University campus. The 2014 Open will feature 21 teams from all divisions of the NCAA, including 16 Division I schools.
Headlining the field are four ranked teams. Along with the 17th-ranked Monarchs, No. 7 Virginia Tech, No. 13 Virginia and No. 19 NC State will enter wrestlers. The Monarchs are the only Mid-American Conference school competing.
The Monarchs enter the weekend with high expectations after a successful showing at the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open last Sunday. Tristan Warner won the 165-pound weight class, while Jacob Henderson (285 lbs.) and TC Warner (157 lbs.) each finished second in their divisions. Austin Coburn (174 lbs.) and Michael Hayes (133 lbs.) won the consolation bracket to place third overall and Matt Tourdot (285 lbs.) rounded out the results with a fourth-place finish.
Following the open, the Monarchs will host No. 7 Missouri on Sunday, November 23rd at 1:00 p.m. The match is just days away so make sure you get your tickets today!
