AKRON, OH—The duo of Ashton Newsom (Chesapeake, VA. ) and Jamison Randall (Cumberland, R.I.)tied for 31st at the Firestone Invitational which was played at the prestigious Firestone Country Club. As a team, the Monarchs finished 13th.
Newsom fired a Monarch best round of the day 72 (75-76-72=223) to finish at 223 and tie teammate Randall (72-74-77=223)..
USC Aiken rallied to shoot 294 in today’s final round and win the tournament by one stroke of yesterday’s leader, Xavier. Jose Montano of Xavier won the individual medalist crown (69-72-71=212) by one stroke over Louis Birchall of Akron (76-65-72=213).
The Monarchs return to action Oct. 19-21 when they host the ODU-Outerbanks Invitational at the Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powell’s Point, NC.
