WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The Old Dominion women’s tennis completed day two of the Wake Forest Invitational Saturday at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
Borislava Botusharova dominated in the A singles bracket, earning victories over Appalachian State’s Clare Cox (6-0, 6-1), Winthrop’s Alice Garcia (6-1, 6-2) and Elon’s Olivia Lucas (6-0, 6-3). The freshman will play again Sunday at 9 a.m. against Stetson’s Alizee Michaud.
Marijana Novakovic also competed in the singles A bracket, downing UNC-Greensboro’s Soumeya Anane 6-3, 6-4 then falling to Wake Forest’s Kimmy Guerin 6-2, 6-3. Novakovic is scheduled for a 9 a.m. match against Richmond’s Anna Abadias in the fifth-place bracket.
In the singles C group, Ivana Vukovic lost a close opening match against Wake Forest’s Courtney Meredith 6-4, 7-6 (5). She then squared off against Stetson’s Ariana Korac, taking the decision 6-2, 6-0 to earn the right to play again Sunday. She will face off with East Carolina’s Dana Gray at 10 a.m.
Faith Atiso competed in the D pairings, losing her first match 6-0, 6-2 to Richmond’s Gabby Rosales. The senior advanced to a 10 a.m. match Sunday with Stetston’s Isabella Fernandez following a walkover by N.C. A&T’s Jayla Scott.
In doubles action, Botusharova and partner Nikol Hristova defeated UNC-Charlotte’s Fleur Holtkamp and Victoria Pahlett 8-2 in the A bracket. The duo then fell to N.C. State’s Elisha Hande and Tayla Stenta 8-6 and were eliminated by Stetson’s Michaud and Ashley Dean in a tough fight 8-7 (3).
Novakovic and Atiso played in the B doubles group, earning an 8-4 decision over Appalachian State’s Brianna Armellino and Gabi Wreder in their opening match. The pair then lost to Richmond’s Brittany Boys and Katya Salas 8-3, then followed by downing ECU’s Maria Gomez and Betsy Zurawel 8-2. Their next match, which would have pitted them against Davidson’s Ava Todd and Sarah Stein, will not be played.

Old Dominion will play again Sunday in the final day of the Wake Forest Invitational. The team will then compete in the ITA $25K Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C. beginning on Monday.
