Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Day Two of the UVA Fall Classic
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Old Dominion University Men’s Tennis completed day two of the University of Virginia Fall Classic on Saturday.
In the Orange singles bracket, Javier Jover defeated Princeton’s Dan Richardson 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, then followed with a 6-4, 6-1 decision against Davidson’s Artem Khrapko. Jover will continue action 9 a.m. Sunday against James Madison’s Rob Stirling.
Michael Weindl fell to East Tennessee State’s Rogerio Ribiero 7-6 (5), 6-1 in the Blue singles bracket. The freshman rebounded with a victory over Peter Bleach of the Citadel 6-4, 6-3 and will square off against William & Mary’s Christian Cargill Sunday at 9 a.m.
Theophile Lanthiez was bested 6-3, 6-3 by Liberty’s Diego Castano in the opening round of the White singles bracket. Lanthiez turned around with a 6-3, 6-1 statement against Joe Hill of George Mason and will play George Washington’s Christos Hadjigeorgiou 9 a.m. Sunday.
David Botti competed in the Red singles bracket, besting Mary-Baldwin College’s Kevin Hsieh 7-6 (3), 6-2. The freshman then fell to Virginia Commonwealth’s Matthew Krizinger 6-3, 6-2. Botti will take on George Mason’s Daniel Gutierrez in the fifth-place Red singles bracket 11:45 a.m. Sunday.
In the Gold singles bracket, Samuel Perelman fell to Davidson’s David Hager 6-2, 6-1 and Liberty’s David Bush 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Perelman will play for 13th place Sunday at 2:45 p.m. against the winner of the Nick Bradley (Citadel) and Aleh Drobysh (VCU) matchup.
Darragh Glavin battled with George Mason’s Aaron Capitel, but lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Glavin rebounded with a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Bucknell’s Octavio Canibe and will play Ben Tso of Princeton Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Jover and Perelman competed in the Black doubles bracket, where they fell to the team of VCU’s Louis Ishizaka and Norfolk State’s Daniel Grauel 8-7 (5). The twosome received a bye in the next round, and then were downed 8-1 by Liberty’s Matheson and Bush.
Lanthiez partnered with Botti in doubles action in the Red bracket. The duo fell to JMU’s Maxi Branth and Brett Moorhead 8-1 and were eliminated by GMU’s Tanner Baine and Gutierrez 8-6.
Virginia Tech’s Jai Corbett and Flouriant Nicoud defeated Weindl and Glavin 8-3 in the first round of the Orange doubles bracket. Weindl and Glavin followed with a close loss to Bucknell’s Nick Bybel and Max Kane 8-6.
