WASHINGTON, D.C. – Behind two goals from junior midfielder Sarah Breen (Melbourne, Australia), the 17th-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team picked up their fifth-straight win with a 3-0 victory over Georgetown in their final BIG EAST matchup of the season in Washington D.C. The five-game winning streak is tied for the longest of the season.

Breen lit up the scoreboard at the 15:29 mark with a hard shot from the top of the circle off a penalty corner taken by Nicole Goff (Collegeville, Pa.). The Lady Monarchs defense held the Hoyas to just one shot the rest of the half, as ODU (11-6, 3-1 BIG EAST) entered halftime with a 1-0 edge.

Just 6:59 into the final period, Breen netted her second goal of the contest, this time off a penalty corner taken by senior Emily Harting (Lititz, Pa.). For the season, Breen leads the team with 10 goals and ranks second in points with 22.

ODU continued to attack the Hoyas on offense, scoring one more goal in the second period. Senior forward Rosario Villagra recorded her eighth goal of the season when she flicked the ball over the goalkeeper following a penalty corner taken by Goff. This marks the first time in her career Goff has notched two assists in one game.

Old Dominion held Georgetown to no shots in the second half, the first time since Nov. 1 2013 vs. Rutgers the Lady Monarchs have achieved that feat.

Junior Megan Hept (Chesapeake, Va.) recorded her sixth shutout of the season, which makes her tied for first in the conference. Freshman Kelly Weaver (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) played the final 9:54 in goal for the Lady Monarchs. Rachel Skonecki suffered the loss for the Hoyas and finished the game with 10 saves.

ODU outshot Georgetown 17-1 and held an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when they host No. 1 North Carolina for a 1:00 p.m. matchup. All five seniors will be honored prior to the start of the match.

Three of the four spots in the BIG EAST Championship have been locked up by Connecticut, Temple and Old Dominion, but No. 4 will come down to Providence or Villanova. The Friars and Wildcats will meet on Saturday afternoon in Villanova, Pa., in the regular-season finale with the winner punching their postseason ticket. Seeding for the other three teams is still undetermined, with the Huskies being either No. 1 or 2, the Owls No. 1 or 3, and the Monarchs No. 2 or 3. Temple hosts UConn on Saturday and the winner of the match will determine the seeding. If UConn wins, ODU will clinch the No. 2 seed and Temple will be No. 3. If Temple beats UConn by one or two goals, ODU is still No. 2. If Temple wins by more than two goals the Lady Monarchs will finish No. 3 and Temple will be No. 2.
