NORFOLK, VA—Mikkel Knudsen’s goal with 2:13 left in the match lifted the Gamecocks of South Carolina (8-8/3-4) to a 1-0 Conference-USA victory over Old Dominion (7-6-1/2-3-1) Wednesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.

The two teams were in a scoreless battle with light rain in the second half.  Looking like overtime with less than three minutes left, South Carolina was awarded a free kick.  The Gamecocks leading scorer Mikkel Knudsen hit the shot that scooted to the left side of a diving ODU goalkeeper, Alex Tiesenhausen

Tiesenhausen had three saves for the Monarchs, while starting goalkeeper Marco Velez had six for South Carolina. He had to leave the match with an injury and Robert Beebe played the final 18-plus minutes in goal.
