Swimming and Diving Splits With Towson in Home Opener

NORFOLK, Va. – Reed Mathews, Vitor Sa, Eddie Hubert and Rachel Eckert led the Old Dominion University swimming and diving squad this weekend as the men pulled out a 155.5-140.5 win over Towson while the women fell 182-118.

The men got things started by winning the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:33.01 as Anton Mikellson, Jacob Zeidler, Vitor Sa and Graham Thatcher made up the four man team.

Sa one the first individual event for the men with a time of 1:41.74 in the 200 free.

Hubert won his first of two events on the day in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 56.58 before winning the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:05.06.

Reed Mathews followed with a win in the 200 fly in 1:48.15 and also won the 200 IM in a time of 1:53.39.

Diver Jacory Moreno won the men’s 1-meter dive with 301.42 points while Sa earned his second win of the day, this in the 100 free with a time of 46.10.

The men wrapped up the win with a victory in the 400 free relay as Thatcher, Adam Scimeca, Jacob Zeidler and Hubert clocked in with a time of 3:06.82.

Colleen VandePoel got the women’s squad on the board with wins in the 100 and 200 back stroke while Julia Vido earned a victory in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:03.62.

Rachel Eckert won the 1-meter dive with a score of 277.12 and broke her own school record in the 3-meter with a score of 316.13.
