DENTON, Texas – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (4-9-4, 3-4-2) fell to North Texas (13-4-1, 7-1-1) by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.

ODU head coach Angie Hind exclaimed, “We knew this was going to be a tough game for us, given their (NT’s) very direct style of play. We battled hard in the second half but couldn't really put any sustained pressure on their goal. We will look to finish strong at home on Thursday and see what happens from there on."

North Texas is receiving votes in the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire Top 25 Poll, while being ranked No. 7 in the Central Region by the NSCAA.

The Mean Green would score their first goal 12 minutes into the match off a corner kick, in which Karla Pineda was credited with her 10th goal of the season.

NT would make the score 2-0 in the 38th minute, when the Lady Monarchs were whistled for a foul, which led to a successful Pineda penalty kick, giving Pineda her goal No. 11 for the 2014 season.

At the half, North Texas held a slight advantage in shots (8-6) and corners (2-0). Old Dominion goalkeeper, Erin Kinz, made three saves in the first 45 minutes of action, while NT’s Jackie Kerestine made two saves.

Old Dominion inserted true freshman goalkeeper, Samantha Frowen, into the match for the second half, in which she made five saves in 45 minutes of work.

Old Dominion attempted five shots in the second half compared to North Texas’ 13. The Mean Green took four corners in the second half, while the Lady Monarchs attempted two. Deidre Bradley led the Lady Monarchs in shots with three.

Kerestine leads the conference in shutouts with 11, save percentage (.884) and goals against average (.610). Kerestine is ranked seventh nationally in save percentage.

Forward Karla Pineda leads the Mean Green with 32 points on 11 goals (3 GW) and is tied for a C-USA best with seven assists. North Texas has compiled a RPI of 81, which is second best in Conference USA, behind only Rice.
