Six Tennis Monarchs Advance to Round of 64 Tomorrow at Regional's

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Six Old Dominion men’s tennis players advanced to the Round of 64 at the 2014 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia on Friday.

Old Dominion’s No. 30 Carlos Lopez Villa, Adam Moundir and Javier Jover Maestre all received first round byes in the Round of 128, in order to play in tomorrow’s Round of 64.

Lopez Villa will take on James Madison’s Maxi Branth tomorrow. Moundir will hit Villanova’s Chris Seitz, while Jover Maestre will face Navy’s Thomas Pecor in the Round of 64.

ODU’s Michael Weindl took down Liberty’s Dillon Segur (6-4, 6-4). Weindl will get a stab at No. 1 seeded and No. 26 nationally ranked Amerigo Contini from Virginia Tech.

Zvonimir Podvinski also won his first match today against George Mason’s Aaron Capitel in a close three setter (6-1, 4-6, 7-5). In the Round of 64 tomorrow, Podvinski will face UMBC’s Justin Carter.

Theophile Lanthiez got the better of Georgetown’s Peter Beatty 7-6, 6-4 today. Lanthiez will have a Saturday showdown against George Washington’s Daniel Zelenkov.

Fri, Oct. 17: Rd. of 64 and 32 doubles, followed by rd. of 128 singles
Sat, Oct. 18: Rd. of 16 doubles, followed by rd. of 64 and 32 singles and 1 round of singles consolation for rd. of 128 losers
Sun, Oct. 19: Quarterfinal doubles, followed by rd. of 16 singles
Mon, Oct. 20: Quarterfinal and semifinal singles, followed by semifinals of doubles
Tue, Oct. 2: Singles and Doubles Finals
