NORFOLK, VA—The Old Dominion University Men’s golf squad will host the fifth annual ODU/Outerbanks Golf Invitational, Oct. 19-21 at the Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powells Point, NC.

There will be 16 teams competing for the title which include Cambell, Delaware, Drake, Drexel, George Mason, Hartford, James Madison, Longwood, Maryland, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Marshall, Nebraska-Omaha, Saint Francis (Pa.), Savannah State, South Dakota, and host ODU.

Christopher Crawford of Drexel and Blake Carter of Longwood and Logan Lagodich of Marshall are notables for this year’s tournament. Crawford, a junior has a 71.4 stroke average which ranks him 83rd in the latest Golfstat rankings. He was the CAA Golfer of the Week Oct. 1 after taking second at the Patriot Intercollegiate.  Carter, a senior at Longwood has a 71.55 stroke average which has him currently ranked 100.  He was the Big South co-Golfer of the week after winning the Cornell Invitational. Lagodich defeated ODU’s Jamison Randall and VCU’s Rocky Khara in a playoff.

The Monarchs are led by senior Jamison Randall (Cumberland, RI.) who has been ODU’s top golfer in two of the three fall events thus far.  The two-time team MVP currently has a 72.3 stroke average, followed by junior Ashton Newsom (Chesapeake, VA.) who has a 73.0 average.  ODU began the season winning the Golfweek Tournament as Newsome tied for sixth and Randall tied for ninth.  The Monarchs also finished seventh at VCU’s tournament. The Monarchs finished third in 2011 and 2012 and fifth last season.
