NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women’s soccer (4-7-3, 3-2-1) surrendered two second-half goals as visiting LA Tech (10-5-1, 2-4-0) earned the 2-0 victory on Sunday at the ODU Soccer Complex.
Old Dominion head coach said, "We are a little disappointed today to have lost the game considering the amount of possession we had; however, credit to our opponents. LA Tech took full advantage of their chances. We have a full week to prepare now before we hit the road again which is good and so more time to get better and ready for our next challenge."
The Lady Monarchs controlled the ball for much of the opening half. Old Dominion held the advantage in both shots (8-4) and corner kicks (3-0), but neither team could get on the board as the teams went into the break scoreless.
The Lady Techsters came out of the locker room aggressively, as Kathryn Sloan found an open net after an over the top pass from Annabel Prior in the 47th minute, giving LA Tech a 1-0 lead.
Old Dominion looked to equalize in the 57th minute, when Natalie Johnson connected on a cross to the middle of the box, however her header hit the crossbar. ODU’s Jessie Klamut headed the rebound towards the near post only to have the Lady Techsters come up with a big team save to prevent the potential Lady Monarch match-tying goal.
Sloan picked up her second goal of the game and team-leading 10th of the season in the 83rd minute as Brittany Beddow found her on a long through pass up the left side. Sloan’s shot went across ODU goalkeeper Erin Kinz’s body and into the back corner of the net.
The Lady Monarchs outshot the Techers 18-14 and led in corner kicks 5-1. Jessie Klamut led the way for ODU with seven shots, followed by Madison Hogan with three.
Kinz made four saves for ODU in a complete-game effort. LA Tech goalkeeper Kylee Seto had six saves.
