NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team (4-6-3, 3-1-1) took down Southern Miss (5-7-2, 0-3-2), 1-0, on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. ODU has now won three matches in its last four tries.
The Lady Monarchs controlled time of possession in the first half, which led to a missed shot by Madison Hogan which set up Jessie Klamut collecting the ball in the Southern Miss box and kicking into the back of the net in the 42nd minute of play, giving Old Dominion a 1-0 advantage at half time. The goal was Klamut’s team-leading fifth of the season, while Hogan compiled her second assist this year.
At the half, ODU led the shot count, 14-3, and corners, 2-1. USM’s Brittany Taylor collected six first half saves. Old Dominion’s Jessie Klamut led all players with five shots.
Despite a total of nine shots in the second half, neither team would score, lifting the Lady Monarchs to their third conference win in just five attempts.
For the match, Old Dominion tallied 20 shots to Southern Miss’ six, respectively. ODU also led the corner kick count, 5-1. Erin Kinz collected two saves in the winning effort, while Brittany Taylor was credited with seven saves in 90 minutes of work.
12 of Old Dominion’s 13 games this season have now been decided by one goal or less.

LA Tech enters this weekend’s competitions with a 9-4-1 overall record; however, the Lady Techsters are 1-3 against conference foes. LA Tech is 6-1-0 at home and 2-3-1 on the road so far this year. They attempt 18 shots per game while scoring 3.29 goals per contest. For the season, the Lady Techsters have taken 80 corners compared to their opponents 48. LA Tech entails three players who each have 15 or more points already this year. Kathryn Sloan leads the way with 22 points with eight goals and six assists. Taylor Dennis has tallied 17 points on eight goals, while Brittany Beddow has compiled 15 points off five goals and five assists. Louisiana Tech heads into the weekend in 12th place in Conference USA.
