Lady Monarchs Lead UNCW, Trail Richmond After Day One

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Old Dominion University swimming competed in a tri-meet at UNCW to open the season and after day one lead UNCW 93-92 and trail Richmond while the men's squad trails UNCW.

The Monarchs had several solid finishes to open the 2014-15 season, as Francisco Byrne, Eddie Hubert, Reed Mathews and Vitor Sa opened the year by winning the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:24.05.

Mathews won his second event of the day with a time of 9:45.17 in the 1000 freestyle while Sa was victorious in the 200 free in a time of 1:42.98.

Freshman Philip Nordenberg picked up his first career win in the 100 breastroke with a time of 57.75.

On the women's side, Julia Vido got the first win of the year in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:05.19.

The team of Morgan Johnson, Stephanie Norris, Sofie Sjoberg and Juliana dos Santos won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:37.77 to clinch the win over UNCW.

Senior Rachel Eckert won the 3-meter dive with a score of 293.15

Day two of the meet begins Saturday morning.
