BOCA RATON, Fla. – In what was the Lady Monarchs (2-6-2) sixth consecutive road game and second Conference USA game of the season, it was Old Dominion who came out on top 2-1 in overtime over Florida Atlantic (6-5-1) at the FAU Soccer Arena in Boca Raton, Fla. on Sunday afternoon.

Head coach Angie Hind exclaimed, "I felt this was a well deserved win for us today. At times we played some great soccer and moved the ball well. What's most pleasing; however, is how we responded once they equalized, we finished the 90 minutes strong and in overtime we were fantastic showing real drive and determination. In the end, that bit of quality we showed made the difference. To travel to Florida and take something from the weekend was so important for us and we have done that."

The first 45 minutes came and went with both defenses pitching shutouts, as FAU attempted six shots with no corners compared to Old Dominion’s four shots and one corner.

In the 63rd minute, Madison Hogan struck for the third time this season giving the Lady Monarchs a 1-0 advantage on their first shot attempt of the second half.

In the 73rd minute, Florida Atlantic’s Olivia Mbala headed in a Claire Emslie pass to level the score at 1-1 and ultimately send the match into overtime. The goal was Mbala’s first of the season.

For the 90 minutes, FAU dominated the shot count, 19-9, and corner kick count, 4-1.

Nine minutes into the first overtime session, Melanie Oakes blasted a shot past FAU GK, Sydney Drinkwater, to lift the Lady Monarchs to a 2-1 victory.  Oakes’ game-winner was assisted by Taylor Smith. For Oakes it was her second goal in as many games.

Old Dominion’s Erin Kinz tallied 3 saves, while Florida Atlantic’s Sydney Drinkwater collected 6 saves on the day.
