Monarchs Host UNCW Saturday Night

NORFOLK, VA—The ODU Soccer Monarchs, winners of three straight host the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.  The Monarchs are 3-2 with three straight shutouts, while former CAA rival UNCW is 4-1-1. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for faculty staff, military, youth and senior citizens. Follow the action with livestreaming on Monarch Media.

The Series: The Monarchs lead the series, 18-6-1.  The two last played in 2012 with the Monarchs winning, 3-1.  UNCW’s last wing was in 2009, beating ODU 1-0 in the CAA Tournament.

ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS: UNCW has won two straight, beating then 17th ranked South Carolina, 2-1 and then No. 25 Campbell 1-0.  The Seahawks have three players with two goals each in junior forward Colin Bonner, sophomore forward Freddy Nzekele and senior midfielder Jamie Dell. They have not been shutout this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Melvin has a 0.78 goals against average and two shutouts.

THE MONARCHS: ODU has given up only two goals, both scored by top-five ranked Virginia and North Carolina. ODU’s defense led by goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen along with the backline of Michael Nelson, David Macisicza, Nicholas Hutchinson and Skylar Hagan ranks 16th nationally and second in C-USA in goals against average at 0.40 and 22nd nationally in shutout percentage 0.60.  On the offensive end, junior Ryan Condotta leads with three total points on one goal and one assist.

Thus far two Monarchs opponents are ranked in the top ten and South Florida was receiving  votes in the NSCAA coaches poll.
