CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Old Dominion traveled to No. 2 Virginia Wednesday, falling 5-0 to the undefeated Cavaliers (8-0) on Wednesday night in Charlottesville.
Megan Reid opened the game with a goal in the 8th minute, shooting from 50 yards out into an empty net to give the Cavaliers an early lead.
Brittany Ratcliffe followed in the 28th minute with her fifth goal of the season, redirecting a Makenzy Doniak rebound.
Morgan Reuther and Veronica Latsko contributed scores in the 38th and 45th minutes respectively as Virginia took a 4-0 lead into the break. Reuther tapped in a Stephanie Krouskos cross while Latsko squeeked one in past the near post from the top of the 18-yard box.
The Cavaliers led the Lady Monarchs in shots (14-1) and corner kicks (3-0) in the first 45 minutes. ODU led in saves, with goalkeeper Samantha Frowen collecting up five, and committed fewer penalties, 2-4.
Coming out of the half, Doniak chipped a long ball over Old Dominion’s Erin Kinz to score what would be the final goal at the 52:21 mark.
UVA outshot ODU 29-2 and held the advantage in corner kicks 7-1. The Lady Monarchs picked up two less fouls in the opening half (2-4), but committed six in the second half compared to just three for the Cavaliers.
Grace Haverly and Natalie Johnson combined for both of the Lady Monarchs’ shots on the evening.
Goalkeeper Samantha Frowen made five saves for Old Dominion while Kinz picked up three of her own. Frowen was tagged with the loss while Virginia’s Jessie Ferrari picked up the win in a one-save effort.

Old Dominion plays on the road again Sunday, Sept 21, as the team takes on Richmond in a scheduled 4 p.m. contest at Robbins Stadium.
